To Meet Needs of Green Economy, Triton College Offers New Online Sustainable Agriculture Courses

August 7, 2014 |

triton college 1Sponsored Post – The Sustainable Horticulture Department at Triton College in River Grove, IL is offering innovative new online courses to meet the evolving needs of the emerging green economy. Through two grants, a Department of Labor Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) Grant and a National Science Foundation (NSF) Career Pathways in Agriculture Technology Grant, Triton has developed two associate degree programs with two stackable certificates in Sustainable Agriculture Technology (SAT) and Sustainable Landscaping Practices, as well as a standalone certificate in Sustainable Landscaping.

The courses are offered in online and hybrid formats, great for working professional students interested in Sustainable Food Systems and Sustainable Landscaping that are considering transitioning into this emerging career field or adding knowledge to their hands on professional portfolio. The certificate courses can be completed with no travel to the institution and all students receive in-district tuition rates at $108 per credit hour for online courses. The associate degree programs also have in person courses offered on campus to advance students hands on skills. Additionally, these courses were developed as open source; decreasing the need for textbooks to be purchased and allowing courses to be replicated at other institutions, creating course standardization in sustainable agriculture and landscape practices. Transfer agreements to 4 year institutions offering similar programs are in process and will be finalized this fall.

Courses include the following:
