IT Solutions Underutilized in Agriculture

March 8, 2011 |

According to Dr. Joseph Reger, Chief Technology Officer of Fujitsu Technology Solutions, the agriculture industry needs to take greater advantage of IT solutions that have the potential to increase production yields.  Reger argues that IT solutions which currently exist to help farmers detect potential issues that might lead to crop failures and determine the optimal time to reap and sow their crops are currently underutilized. He notes that the penetration of IT among farmers and producers is very low and that early adopters will enjoy big gains as they have, for example, in Japan where Fujitsu is deploying technology in paddy fields to help producers more accurately ensure that they are harvesting their rice crop at the optimum time.
